Memorial Day 2007

Man did we have a great time on Memorial weekend. Had probably 100 plus members camp out with us at Pamps pit.  Set up for drag races on Saturday in the 1st parking  lot and had so many racers we had to flag start the races. Sunday the wind blew everyone away and we weren't able to do the drags or the freestyle jumping, but the riding late in the evening was great with super smooth dunes everywhere. Monday we all got together for the clean up and everything looks great.  Check out the Picture Links for Photos.
Fireworks Sales Update 2007

This was the best year we ever had with our fireworks sales. We sold $78,000 in fireworks over a 7 day sale. The best we have ever done in the past was 45k. On the last day (the 4th of July) we sold $34,000 in fireworks in 12 hours. Man were we busy it took 2 of us working full time to keep the shelves stocked while up to 10 Scorpion and AARP members were selling fireworks. All you members that helped were awesome, and many spent big money on fireworks and sent your friends to us. Thank you! Our commission check was $8.559.00 our share was $5.135.80 and AARPs share was $3.423.70.  We will be able to do more improvements to our race trailer and support our events. GREAT JOB!!  Check out the Picture Links for Photos.
Family camp out at  in the Yellow Zone (Mud Flats) was a blast. We weren't able to have the event out at Point No Point as the water level was to high so we scouted out a beach at the North end of the Yellow Zone. This to was a great place to have our party. The 150lb pig roast was a tasty success thanks to all the Scorpions who donated their time and excellent side dishes of tater, macaroni, fruit, 3 bean and veggie salads. corn on the cob, tater chips, and dips,  baked beans, soda pop, and more. We had about 140 guests who devoured almost everything in sight. Special thanks to Ross Lingenfelter who arranged for the Giant BBQ and got it all going.  On Saturday we started the pig set up the drag race trailer. Right of the bat we found that our Race America system had gone up in smoke so we were forced to flag start all the drag races, even that didn't slow down the event. Moses Lake towing donated his tractor and blade for us to groom the track and it worked great thanks Alan. The drags started at 5pm and went on till 1 pm both Saturday and Sunday. There must have been 1000 passes and not a single misshap. On Sunday afternoon we did the Australian persuit races with the Quads and the trucks. The Quads raced around the beach on a closed course that was basicly a TT type track mostly flat with a few wet spots and small bumps. They also opted for a moto cross type start for the second event. Both events were a blast and everyone came off the track totaly blasted with mud and sand. The trucks had a longer course that had several water crossings and was great fun to watch as as the mud and water was everywhere it to was basicly a flat track and high speed. What a blast. Of course the kids had a blast swimming , playing on the beach, riding thier quads, and playing the drums. We also had a fire works display each night, and some of the Sandscorpions were treated to a air boat rides. WOW.  Pictures on Picture Page 1

CROSS COUNTRY FUN RUN 2007
We had 25 entrants this year, mostly quads and motorcycles. Attendance was down from last year probably because of all the rain we had. This also delayed the start from 9am to 11:30. Those who entered had the best race conditions with wet dust free sand and cool 70 degree temperatures. We started everyone together with a Lemans style start. The group left in a flash racing across the sand. It was not long after the start when James Gettings crashed knocking the wind out of him coming off a dune into a set of whoops on his new Kawasaki 450. Most of the racers stopped to provide him assistance and he soon got his wind back and off we all went. It was totally inspiring to see how many racers went to James aid, that's the Sand Scorpion family for you! Several of the leaders overshot the 2nd check point allowing the rest of the group to catch up and pass them. Rich Archer was the first back with a finishing time of 19 min flat Zack Taber and Jeremy Davis followed within seconds. Everyone returned within 1 hour even some who had stopped to help a gal retrieve her quad that was upside down in a bunch of willows. She wasn't one of the racers but again we race for the fun of it. Everyone had lots of stories to share at the end as we all got to eat plenty sand, mud, and water from the roosts of the guy in front of you. The race was over open sand dunes, through winding trails, water and mud crossings.  Check out the Pictures Links for Photos.

  Team Mud Bogs 2007
What a tough day for the mud bogs, and those who came know why. Old Mother Nature threw us a curve this year with loads of rain not to mention the fact that the O'Sullivan Reservoir was as high as we have ever seen this time of year. Both contributed to making our usual mud bog pits small lakes. Hence we changed our venue this year to a tough truck closed course fun run. We still were able to get in the mud but not to where everyone had to be winched out.
Ross Lingenfelter mapped out a 2 1/2 minute course over hills, through brush, mud, and water crossings that was a blast. We set out 6 vehicles at a time 15 seconds apart and timed thier laps. It was a real drivers course with tight turns muddy obsticles to manuver around and through, even a table top jump that some guys were flying over. The fastest time was set by Lyle Labes Jr in his full size Bronko with a 2 min flat run, Ross placed 2nd only 1 second behind.
We also had a great BBQ meal with Peny Archer cooking us up left over pulled pork on a bun, chips, and pop. D J Starkweather provided us with his family recipie BBQ sauce that was D-J lishus. Pictures are on Pictures Page 1
Lind Lions Club Demo derby & Quad Races

Man those guys realy know how to have fun. The demo car races were fast and furious with trophie dashes, heat races, and a Australian persuit race, topped off with the demo as parts were flying and the hits were hard.
We had 15 quads enter for the flat track races.  We had 2 heat races, and a main followed with a Australian persuit race.  It wasn't exactly a flat track tho as the holes in the turns could almost swallow a quad. It did make for some exciting racing as it came down to the riders who could hold on the longest while dodging the holes and other racers. The heat races determined the starting possition for the main where all 15 riders lined up 5 abreast and 3 rows deep. That track was definatly full with racing at every turn , the crowd loved us. The Australian persuit race was brutal, Im sure everyone was sore the next day as we probably ran 20 laps. The Lions club loved us and asked us to come back next year, can't wait.  Pictures are on Pictures Page 1

Christmas Tree and Sledding fun run. 2007
On December 8th 2007 we all gathered at Airway Deli and gas and headed to Leavenworth WA for some fun sledding, hot food and a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. We had a line of 25 vehicles 1/2 a mile long,  in our group out on the highway.
I couldn't believe how many members showed for this run. when we finally got to our destination up on Eagle creek at about 10:30 there were 80 Sandscorpions with sleds in tow. We set up base camp started cooking our vittles, and had a huge camp fire.          There were so many of us we had to feed everyone in shifts. We served 4 giant pots of chili, a 15lb deep fried turkey, and 10lbs of chicken. Not to mention the 4 gallons of hot coco 3 cases of pop, rolls, and all  the goodies everyone brought to munch on.
We had about a foot of snow and the weather was gorgeous, not a cloud in the sky, temps in the mid 30s.
The kids ripped down the hill on there sleds and tubes while the adults went tree hunting, snow mobiling even riding thier quads.
A couple of us ended up with some bumps and bruises and had a few cold feet and fingers but everyone had a blast.
Check out the pictures on page 1. If this event gets any bigger we will have to find a larger place to park all our rigs, we barely had room to feed everyone and sled.
Thanks everyone for making this event a success.

Discount Fireworks New Years Sales
New years fireworks sales went great this year. We moved our stand from Soap  Lake to the Grant Co Fair Grounds in Moses Lake and also added a second stand out next to I 90 at Stan's Repair. We sold aprox $12.000 in fireworks nearly 5 times as much as we did last year. Great job you guys. Jack Hughes our sponcer figures next year our sales should double again due to the fact we have establishes our stands in Moses Lake now. Sales were fairly slow the first few days but by New Years eve we were rockin as the word got out. Many of our customers were excited to see us even tho the temp outside was in the 20s. Nothing like some awesome fireworks to warm the sole. Thanks for all the volunteers who helped this year and special thanks to the AARP group I don't know how guys you do it. As soon as we get our commission check ill give you the official figures. Great job to you all.
New years day Christmas Tree bon fire chili feed and drag races.           As usual we had a great turn out even tho the weather was cold but the sun was out and we all had a great time. We got to show off our new amplifier and speakers and believe me this new system realy rocks. We had the usual Christmas tree bon fire and all shared a bowl of chili. We were unable to set up the drag lights as we still have some bugs in to work out. Several 4x4s and quads made a fun run out across the dunes. We got a few pictures so check them out on the pictures pages.
What a great way to start the new year.
SANDSCORPIONS ANNUAL PARTY AT LAKESIDE BAR AND GRILL 2008
Yep it will soon be here and just like in the past a great time for all. We will be sharing dinner a taco feed and mini burgers. We will be setting up TV screens all over the place and running any videos we have of our past events so if you have some footage let me know as we want to see them. Bring your pictures as we will also have our scrap books available for every one to check out.
Sandscorpions purchased a new picture printer/scanner and will have it here at this event. If you have any pictures on cd bring them as we will have the ability to print anything you want at a minimal fee, cost of materials you know. Probably a buck a picture. Great way to get a picture of yourself doing something great or maybe stupid that one of our members has and you don't.
We are also planning on setting up our drag lights and having some tricycle and little red wagon drag races. Wagon races will be two person teams, driver and pusher. Boy does that sound like fun so get those big wheel tikes and tricycles all tuned up and ready to rumble. Classes will be set up by age groups.  The event will start at 4PM on Saturday February 16th and last till Mike runs us out. Remember this is a family event so bring the kids you can also bring a friend or two if you like. The more the merrier.

Ryan Capes World Record Distance Jump Attempt.       March 2nd 2008 Toes MX Park Royal City Wa.
The 1st weekend in March Ryan Capes will be attempting to break the Worlds Record long distance jump on a MX bike and we will be there.
Sandscorpions have been asked to bring over our race trailer and set it up to announce for this special event. We were there last year when Ryan set the Worlds record jump with a trick at 253ft and boy was it spectacular to watch.
Ryan is planning on jumping over 320 ft to retake the record he previously held. Seth Enslow will also be there and they both will be putting on a great show for us. Several other pros will be attending to compete in the Huckfest competition.
See the video here http://000f9a8.netsolhost.com/huckfest2008.html        The event will include several long distance jumps, freestyle event, Mini exhibition, enduro cross exhibition, and more at Huckfest!

Sand Scorpions Annual Party 2008 was a great success as our members packed the Lakeside Bar and Grill. We all shared some great food and watched our old videos while checked out all the pictures, and bench racing. We had some fun on the back deck racing tricycles and little red wagons against our Race America Pro Drag tree. The event lasted from 4pm till 8pm with at least 80 members attending. It felt like a big family party with all the kids running around and the adults visiting every where. Check out the pictures on page 1.
Yep. We were there, and the weather was great,  sun shine all day and very little wind. We set up the trailer and provided the PA system and the announcer. We all had a great time they had lots of events from the long distance practice of Ryan Capes, and Seth Enslow, to the events at the Fracture Farm,  the Enduro cross, and the Mini Moto races.
Ryan Capes was real tight lipped about how far he was jumping but by the reactions of his team who was measuring each jump he definatly was hitting the distances he wanted. Im guessing he hit at least 330 ft at the end of the day probably further. Seth was riding a borrowed bike an I'm sure he was hitting around 280 ft. I know they were hitting speeds of 88mph at the ramp.ZOOM.
They will be going to Australia at the end of the month to attempt to set the world record Good Luck guys.
The Enduro Cross was Extreem as Steve had a course set up over bolders, huge logs, giant tires, lots of loose shale rock, and old cars and trucks. By the time the event was over the riders and there machines were trashed.
The freestyle jumping event was awsom with loads of tricks, flips, kan kans, superman, hart attachs, Indian air, lazy boys, and lots of varations. A couple of guys got hauled off in the Ambulance. Ouch!!!
The Mini moto was a blast with guys of all ages rippen around the track.
The Royal City High School and the 4 H club provided some great food and drinks and Monster Energy Drinks were handing out samples.
Check out the pictures at the bottom of pictures page 1.

Boy did every one have fun at the Kids Easter Egg Hunt. We had probably 30 to 35 kid running all over the dunes scooping up all the godies left by the Easter Bunny. They all went away with a bag full of candy and plastic eggs.
Later we got together for some burgers, hot dogs and some drag racing. We got to try out our new light system have to say it works great. Ist so simple the kids were running it and having a blast while everyone racing down the strip. Dave Moosebar even found us a tractor with a bucket to repair the start area.                                                       May 23th to 26th.
Diane Jackson Memorial weekend camp out and $1.00 drag races. This is a great family event with loads of things to do. We set up camp at Pamps gravel pit with our own porta potties and clean camp areas. We have some sort of BBQ each day and set up our race trailer for sand drags out in the dunes. Every evening we play music over the PA system or enjoy the kids and the Drum circle music. Off road fun runs will be going on all weekend and if that’s not enough the City of Moses Lake is having their spring fair with carnival games and rides, a Saturday night parade, and a Car Show-n-Shine.
DIANE JACKSON MEMORIAL CAMP OUT
April fools night time poker run was a blast. We had aprox 80 people show up for the event with the winner taking home $55.00 with a 4 of a kind.  We started a dusk and it was all over at 10PM. We had vehicles from 4x4s, Quads, and Jeeps and everyone came back in one piece. At least 20 of us stayed around the huge fire we had at the start/finish lantern and watched as all the rigs cruised around the dunes looking for the check points. It was great fun for kids and adults alike.
                               GREAT NEWS !!!!
The Grant County Sherrifs Department has installed a brand new two stall rest rooms in the 1st parking lot at the East entrance to the dunes (Potato Hill Rd entrance) and they look great. They have also set up a contract to have them maintained at a regular intervals to keep them clean for us all.  Now its up to all of us to keep a watch over them to help prevent vandalism so if you see anything don't be afraid to call 911 and report any suspicious activity.
Within the the next 3 or 4 weeks our group will all be getting together and talking out some heavy equipment in order to improve the camping areas. Mick Hanson has offered to loan us some of his equipment, a bull dozer, grader, front end loader and a dump truck.
We are hoping to push all the blow sand off the parking lot down into the gravel pit to make it level and fill in all the holes and move around some of the gravel to make it more accessible to large campers. The Sandscorpions will have to pay for the fuel and we are looking for donations so kick in a couple of bucks to make our area better.
Also get a hold of me to volunteer as we will need operators and lots of manual labor. If you know of any other off road groups who might be willing to help have them contact me.
You can email at rparcher@homenetnw.net. or call me at 509 398 2616 for more info and to sign up to help.
If you have any equipment we can use let me know the more the merrier.
Watch this spot for a work date. ( sooooon!!!)
Moses Lake Sand Dunes Camping Area Improvements
             Friday 5-9-2008 to Sunday 5-11-2008
Mick Hanson had donated the use of his dump truck and a loader, Pamp Meiers the gravel, and the Sand Scorpions the fuel and labor. We were able to do the improvements needed at the camping area at the East entrance & around our new rest rooms. We rebuilt the road into lot #1, leveled the camping area, and add about 600 yards of gravel. We were also able to level the camping area at Pamps Pit and clean it up.  Pamp also donated 4 yards of concrete to make the new restrooms handicapped accessible.  We are looking for people who are experienced masons to volunteer some time to make this happen. We have about a week left before Memorial so if you can help please call me so I can set some time aside.    Pictures soon.             (May 13-2008)
  Update Camping Area Improvements 5/20/2008
I was able to do the inkind donations form for the Grant Co Sheriffs Department and it looks like the Sand Scorpions, Mick Hansen, and Pamp Maiers were responsible for $11850.00 worth of improvements to our camping areas in the Moses Lake Sand Dunes.  Mick Hanson  donated the equipment, Pamp Maiers the gravel, and The Sand Scorpions the labor. Great Job you guys and gals for a job well done. I'm sure all the campers will enjoy what you all have done.

FRIDAY 13TH RACES
.    Man this event was huge and the fans loved it. We got off to a slow start when our computer decided he was going on strike, but once we got organized every thing went on extremely fast.
I think that the most obvious problem was the huge number of atv racers who showed up but what a show they put on. We had over 50 quads show for the drags and 18 for the Quad wars. The Quad Wars races had the crowd  on there feet several times as the racing was fast and furious.
The trucks, bikes, quads, and 4x4s who drag raced had some serious races going on and the track held up great. The worst problem was the lack of traction for the guys with aggressive tread as the track was very hard.
A bunch of the AMA flat track guys showed up on thier bikes and did the Grand Prix flat track on thier race bikes and pit bikes. They tore up the track pushing and shoving never giving a inch doing things that looked impossible it was great. After the event I was able to visit with some of the pro racers and they told me that our race was a blast something they don't normally get to do. We even had a 3 wheeler class with pro caliber riders realy cool.
All in all most everyone enjoyed the races the audience and racers alike.                         (SEE PICTURES PAGE 1)

VETERANS MEMORIAL WALL
I was totally blown away by the power this exhibit has. From the moment you enter the exhibit and  realize how long the wall is and how small each name on it is do you realize how costly our American way of freedom is. Thousands of people visited the wall during its stay in Moses Lake and all left in awe.  The Sand Scorpions donated the use of our race trailer and P.A. system each day for the dignitary and  presentation speeches. It was great to be apart of this celebration for our fallen Americans.
I was also able to attend the AMA flat track races on Sat night. The croud was small and the racing fast. There were 10 pros in the event and they were puting on a great show. They and a good turn out  with 17 classes of bikes. Sounds like they may be haveing more races in the future so stay tuned.
Peny and I spent part of Sat morning checking out all the bike stuff and custom Harleys every where. They had a full assortment of venders from sun glass salesmen, biker stuff, all sorts of trinkets, food booths, and even custom bikes.  The stunt roadbike  riders did some awsom tricks and long wheelies, and the car and bike show was great.                     (SEE PICTURES PAGE 1)
The Fireworks sale was great we had a ton of help this year and it was a good thing as we also had record sales. With both stands, the Grant Co fair grounds location selling $67.000.oo, and the Stanz Repair location selling $33.000.oo, we have finaly broke into the 100K club.                                                  CONGRADULATIONS!!!
We sold over $22.000.oo more than last year great job you all. On the last day we sold 49.000.oo WOW! Can't wait for the party on October.
  4th of July Fireworks sales.
Wednesday Night Sand Drags. Where THE SOUTH END OF MOSES LAKE AT THE WEST ENTRANCE, WEST LAKE side of the ORV area. Time 6:30pm. We will be showing up at the dunes at 6:30 with the race trailer. The racing will start as soon as we are able to get everything set up and running, so the more people who show up to help the sooner we will be racing. We had a great time last year as the events got larger each night. It will be a great time for all those armatures to get used to the lights and their machines, and a perfect opportunity for those local pros to test and tune theirs. All off road vehicles welcome.

   WEDNESDAY NIGHT SAND DRAGS
